Join Lulu Becker to explore how mindfulness can change the way we respond to challenging moments in clinical practice.

Imagine you're treating a patient who says:

"I've been coming here and I've been doing everything you told me to do, and I'm still not getting better."

You notice your shoulders tighten. There's a little knot in your stomach and you feel a bit sweaty.

A thought pops up: "Why isn't this working? Maybe they'd be better off seeing another physio?"

Before you've even said a word, your body has responded.

What happens next?

Do you jump in to defend your treatment? Explain yourself? Offer another solution?

Or do you notice what's happening within you, pause for a moment, and respond with curiosity instead?

This is mindfulness in clinical practice.

Not sitting on a meditation cushion. Not trying to feel calm.

Simply becoming aware of our thoughts, emotions and body sensations, and recognising how they might influence the way we relate to our patients.

In this 90-minute session, Lulu Becker will introduce the Triangle of Awareness and explore how noticing our thoughts, emotions and body sensations can influence our clinical interactions.

We'll explore how these small moments of awareness can create space to respond with curiosity and compassion, rather than reacting automatically.

This is about bringing mindfulness into the everyday moments of physiotherapy practice, particularly those moments when we feel uncertain, challenged or uncomfortable.

A practical exploration of mindfulness for physiotherapists.

Instructor

Lulu Becker

Lulu Becker is a South African physiotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, including more than 15 years specialising in pelvic and women's health in the UK and South Africa. Alongside her clinical practice, Lulu teaches courses in pelvic health, fertility and mindfulness to physiotherapists. She completed a two-year mindfulness teacher training programme through IMISA and Stellenbosch University in 2023, and has since developed and facilitated an eight-week mindfulness programme specifically for physiotherapists. Lulu is particularly interested in how mindfulness can support psychologically informed physiotherapy, helping clinicians become more aware of their own responses, improve therapeutic relationships and navigate the challenges of clinical practice with greater awareness and compassion. She is passionate about making mindfulness practical, accessible and relevant to everyday physiotherapy, well beyond the meditation cushion.
